Optimize Shapes
Use the Design Variable options to automatically generate optimization variables. These variables can then be used to optimize the surface of the part with respect to the given shapes.
-
From the Morph ribbon, click the Shapes tool.
Figure 1.
The Edit Shapes dialog opens. - Select one or more shapes.
-
For Design Variable, select the type of variables you want to create.
- Off
- No design variable is created for the selected shapes. This is the default option.
- Desvar
- This option automatically creates DESVAR design variable cards.
- Design Explorer
- This option automatically creates Design Variable parameter cards.
-
Define the Lower, Initial, and Upper Bound values.
By default, these values are -1.0, 0, and 1.0 respectively. Where -1.0 means the shape will be moved to 100% of its nodal perturbation in the negative direction. Where 1.0 means a 100% perturbation in the positive direction. These values act as a scaling factor of the shape. With 0 representing the initial unmorphed state.
- Click OK.
