Message Center

The Message Center lists the actions performed in the current session. The dialog also provides you with information about your file (warnings, errors, and so on).

Select one of the following to display or hide the Message Center:
  • From the View menu, select Message Center.
  • From the status bar, click .
  • From the menu bar, select File > Preferences > Message Center to select one of the following display preferences:
    • Only Manually
    • Automatically for Errors
    • Automatically for Errors and Warnings
    • Automatically for Every New Message
Tip: Additional Message Center preferences can be defined in the Preferences dialog.
By default, the Message Center opens at the bottom of the application. If the HWC Console, Python Window, and/or the Tcl Command Window are also open, the Message Center opens as a separate tab.

Columns

The Message Center contains the following columns:
Time
The time that the message was logged.
Click the Time column to reverse the sorting order.
Priority
Displays the priority of each message with an icon.
Product
The product that generated the message.
Note: The product name is displayed only if the information was provided when adding the message.
Right-click on the column header to toggle the visibility of the Product column.
Tag
Displays the message tag.
Note: The tag is displayed only if the information was provided when adding the message.
Right-click on the column header to toggle the visibility of the Tag column.
Message
Displays the message.
Select text and copy it using the context menu.
Long messages appear collapsed, so that only a certain number of lines are shown. Use Preferences > Common > Message Center to define the number of lines displayed.
When the message is collapsed, two icons are displayed:
Click either icon to expand the message, making it fully visible.
When expanded, the chevron icon changes. Click to collapse the message again.

Filter and Save Messages

Use the following tools to save and search the messages:

Tool Description
Saves all messages to a text file (.txt).
To save specific messages:
  • Select the message(s) from the dialog.
  • Right-click on the Save icon and select Save Selected Messages.

Left-mouse button click on the Save icon to display the file browser to save all messages.

Filters the message type(s) displayed. The number next to the icon indicates how many of each message type are logged in the Message Center. Click a message type to only display those messages.

When all filters are off, all messages are shown. This is the default.

Displays the Search field. The search starts when you press Enter or click to the right of the Search field. The search results are highlighted.

Context Menu Options

Use the right-click context menu to perform the following functions:
Copy Selected Text
Double click text in a message to turn on the Copy Selected Text option.
Copy Selected Messages/Delete Selected Messages
Copies or deletes the selected message(s), respectively.
Select All Messages/Delete All Messages
Selects or deletes all messages, respectively.
Empty Area Selection
Click in the white space of the Message Center to deselect all messages.
Ctrl/Shift
To select multiple messages, press Ctrl as you select the messages.
Press Shift while selecting messages to select a range of messages between your first and last selections.
