Inflator

Use the Inflator tool to insert an inflator into an airbag.

This tool creates a flattened dummy inflator that you can insert between the airbag’s sheets. A Radioss simulation inflates it to its original position.

  1. From the Airbag ribbon, click the Inflator tool.
    Figure 1.

  2. On the guide bar, click to define the parameters.
    • Folds Directory: The location where the results of the run are written.
    • Add gravity during simulation: Select to add gravity.
    • Fix XY holes moves: Activates the Hole studs selector on the guide bar, which allows you to select elements to be fixed in the X and Y direction during simulation.
    • Lateral compression: Creates another dummy inflator used for lateral compression. This dummy is positioned using the X, Y, and Z translation inputs. It also activates the Lateral compression selector on the guide bar, which allows you to select elements to interface with the lateral dummy.
  3. On the guide bar, click Airbag to select the airbag components.
  4. Select the airbag components.
In the microdialog, enter the flattened inflator thickness.

  5. On the guide bar, click Inflator.
  6. Select the inflator components.
A flattened dummy inflator is created with an attached move tool, which allows you to set it in position between the airbag sheets.
  7. On the guide bar, use Holes studs or Lateral compression if necessary.
  8. On the guide bar, click Export to export the pre-simulation model.
  9. At the end of the pre-simulation run, from the Airbag ribbon, click Node to load the new positions from the resulting .h3d file.
